Since 2005 the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has funded six university cricket academies in England and Wales. This initiative has been taken over now by the ECB.

The aim of the scheme is to offer talented young cricketers the chance to receive top-level coaching and playing opportunities whilst furthering their education.

Leeds/Bradford have boasted a Women's UCCE scheme as of 2015, with ever-growing success. It has supplied players to the full England sides, 'Hundred' franchises, counties and clubs. The scheme is fully committed to developing the whole player, for cricket and beyond.

"One of the great benefits of the MCCU scheme is that it prevents people from being forced to choose between education and playing cricket professionally.  It is important that young players can continue their education and at the same time progress into the professional game."

Andrew Strauss (Former Durham MCCU)
